What are you going to do?
The Sr. Controls Engineer is part of our Innovation Center, where a team of experts is working to design and develop new, innovative products, with the aim to be the true technology leader in our markets.
You will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of controls strategy and automation software definition of new, innovative standard products, for example automated mooring and automatic plug-in charging systems.
In this position, you will translate functional requirements of future products in innovative control solutions. You support the Project Manager New product Development by creating sub-project plans and planning for controls and automation.
Other tasks and responsibilities are for example
- Execution of the automation and controls related tasks within all project boundaries;
- Investigate and understand future customer needs to develop creative, new solutions;
- Design of the automation system architecture and selection of the automation hardware;
- Design the software program of the PLC/HMI using state-of-the-art techniques;
- Drive smart, modular product architectures in automation and controls;
- Select and cooperate with external technology providers for high quality project execution;
- Risk analysis and risk mitigation;
- Prototyping, testing and homologation, in close cooperation with CoE manufacturing site;
- After release, hand-over to the CoE controls engineers;
- Technical support to engineering and service team for first delivery when required;
- All required technical documentation at hand-over;
- Support continuous improvement of the NPD process.
In this position, you will report directly to the Team leader/ Senior Electrical Engineer. International travelling will be part of the job.
What will you bring?
The ideal candidate has at least a Master’s degree in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering / Automation Engineering and 5-10 years of experience with PLC programming such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell and AC/DC drive system.
In order to perform this job well, you
- Have state of the art knowledge of automation design solutions;
- Have knowledge of electrical equipment, smart sensors, actuators and feedback signal gauges;
- Are able to select the control equipment and setting-up of the customizable parameters;
- Are proficient in field bus architectures, wireless communications;
- Are proficient in reading and writing electrical diagrams.
It is preferable if you are familiar with port equipment and port operating systems.
In addition, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as you will be in close contact with the NPD Project Manager, Global Head of R&D and Engineering, Product Managers, Global Head of Innovation, Engineering Managers CoE’s, Controls team leaders, Operations, fellow engineers in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Automation, external technology partners, universities and target customers.
You are a team player, accountable for your own work, decisive, taking initiative and willing to learn and develop new knowledges and skills. You are creative and open minded, innovative and opportunity driven, adapting successfully to changing demands and conditions. In addition, you have a natural drive for continuous improvement of products and NPD processes.
And off course, you have a good command in Dutch and English.
